I bave had the opportunity to meet one of my best online friends in person. I would like to share some tips to make your first time meeting fun and comfortable.
About my experience:
I was lucky enough to meet my chat host, Clipper. Clipper and I have known each other for quite sometime and the meeting was great, and it will always be something I will remember fondly. We hit it off, just like we did when we first met in the chat room. I did arrange for Clipper to come to my house, but we do have a different relationship that most online friends, since we actually work together and I know of her family in my home state. This is something I do not recommend for online friends to meet at someone's residence. Unfortuanately the visit was short because she had family commitments, but it was wonderful to meet her.
Things To Keep In Mind, Before Meeting Someone:
Do you really think you know the person? You could talk to someone for months and they could be fooling you. Be paranoid! Has some of the things they have said not completely added up? If you feel a little uncomfortable, it may be your intution telling you something.
First of all, before agreeing to a meeting, safety must be your first consideration. Plan your meeting in a public place. Even if you have talked with a person online for months, you truly don't know them, so take safety precautions.
Bring something with you that fill in an uncomfortable lags in the conversation. For example, my husband and her's had never talked, so he brought a photo album of a cabin he and Clipper had built. Needless to say, this gave something for them to talk about, while Clipper and I gabbed about chat and our other friends in chat.
Developing friends online is one of the best things about the Internet. I have friends all over the world and I know I will most likely never get to meet a lot of them, but meeting this online friend was great! I highly suggest if you have the opportunity to meet one of your online friends, do it! Just be extremely careful, you wouldn't want one of these meetings to turn into a disaster.
